Waiting

It’s seems these days I am waiting.

Waiting for the torrential rains and darkness to pass.

Waiting quietly as my husband sleeps to garner energy to live the moments he is awake.

Waiting for Friday to visit my grandmother in hospice, hoping there is yet another weekend left to say goodbye.

Waiting for my friend to get out of surgery.

Waiting in a diner instead of a waiting room due to COVID.

Waiting for the call to help, to hear news, to say goodbye, to hear another statistic.

I am not waiting for the burden of waiting to be lifted.

I am dreading when I’ll know loneliness again.
